Pastor Seth – Poems and Musings

Our Fallen World

Once we did have Eden, garden of paradise,

Dreams of utopia, Adam and Eve were nice.

Lands of milk and honey, Love’s creation gave birth,

Beauty, majesty, life, rejoiced through all the Earth.

Creator created, such wonder filled the sky.

Sun and moon, clouds and stars, birds majestically fly.

Beauty of a garden, orange and green, blue and red,

Sweetness of relations, and sweetest daily bread.

But human pride afoul, rebelled in paradise.

Relationships turned cold, frigid as tundra’s ice.

The Self now ruled as king. Conflict came, hurt and blame.

“Make a name! Look for fame! Rights to claim! Shroud with shame!”

Things break and must be fixed, check Youtube history!

But broken people fixed? What a deep mystery!

Purposes we don’t see, motives to which we’re blind,

Attitudes arrogant. God, make our hearts unwind.

Oh! What can change the heart? Great books and great teachers?

Great purposes? Great goals? Great faith and great preachers?

While knowledge and wisdom, while helpful, and a “must,”

But none but God can break the heart’s hard outer crust.

Our fallen world is meant to help us see our need.

Pride laid down, joyfully; and humbly we concede.

The longings in our soul, which nothing else can meet,

Lie deep within the heart. There, Him we will entreat!
